To enhance effective project implementation and long-term sustainability, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) has successfully conducted a three day Sustainable Project Management. Training for four Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs).
Held from March 26–28, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State, the training provided practical tools and structured frameworks for efficient project planning and execution, equipping participants with the skill to manage community development initiatives effectively.
Strengthening Project Implementation for Lasting Impact
Speaking on behalf of PIND’s Executive Director, Mr. Tunji Idowu, PIND’s Economic Development Manager, Mr. Misan Edema-Sillo, highlighted the critical role of structured project management in ensuring the success of community development efforts.
“Sustainable development requires effective resource management, high-quality project execution, and accountability. PIND remains committed to equipping HCDTs with the expertise to drive impactful and long-lasting development in their communities.”
A 2024 PIND Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA) of four HCDTs—Egbema Opudis, Agbonu Ogulagha Ibe, Ugboland, and Warri Kingdom Coastal HCDT—revealed gaps in project management structures. While previous efforts had strengthened leadership, procurement, and peacebuilding capacities, the absence of standardized project management guidelines remained a challenge.
With several HCDTs set to launch new development projects in the second quarter of 2025, the training was designed to equip participants with proven strategies to improve efficiency, minimize delays, and enforce accountability.
Building Practical Knowledge for Implementation
Led by industry experts, the training featured a blend of technical instruction, real-world case studies, and hands-on exercises, ensuring participants gained immediately applicable expertise. Key focus areas included Project Cycle Management, Managing for Development Results (MfDR), Stakeholder Engagement strategies, Problem Analysis, and Project Management Tools and Techniques.
Key Outcomes of the Training
The training delivered several impactful results, including:
● Strengthened capacity of HCDT members in project planning and execution.
● Development of a draft Project Management Guideline to support structured implementation.
● Improved understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for project execution and monitoring.
Ensuring Sustainable Adoption
PIND is committed to ensuring that these frameworks are not only learned but fully integrated into HCDT operations. To sustain these efforts, PIND will follow-up support to track implementation progress, offer technical advisory to reinforce best practices, and finalize and institutionalize the Project Management Guidelines for formal adoption.
By reinforcing structured project management, PIND is empowering HCDTs to execute high-impact, sustainable projects that foster real development and lasting change in their communities.
