We were given an award at the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) public presentation on the RSPO National Interpretation to Nigerian public and private sector stakeholders; an event organized by the Nigeria National Interpretation Working Group (NNIWG) at Protea Hotel in Benin City, Edo State, on April 24, 2018. This award was given in recognition of our contributions to establishing the RSPO National Interpretation in Nigeria and our work in the palm oil sector in the Niger Delta.
The RSPO principles and criteria (and their accompanying indicators and guidelines) are a set of principles drawn by the RSPO to promote sustainable palm oil production. This global set of principle are then adapted by different countries to fit their culture, economic policies and principles; thus forming the RSPO National Interpretation.
On June 14, 2017, the Board of Governors of RSPO endorsed the RSPO National Interpretation for Nigeria. The endorsement brings Nigeria into the league of countries set to produce sustainable palm oil in the world.
PIND worked with various stakeholders to formulate the National Interpretation for Nigeria which was then endorsed by the Board of Governors. This is part of PIND’s palm oil value chain project geared at facilitating equitable economic development in Nigeria’s Niger Delta.
