The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) will host a one-day roundtable meeting on March 19, 2020 at its Economic Development Centre (EDC) Warri – Delta State, to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
The UN Women theme for International Women’s Day 2020 is’ I am generation equality: realizing women’s rights’. In alignment, PIND’s Roundtable is themed ‘’Realizing Women’s Rights: Economic and Peacebuilding Route’ and aims to increase the consciousness of the public on economic development and peacebuilding as means towards realization of women’s right.
Participants at the roundtable will include beneficiaries of PIND’s economic development and peacebuilding programs along with stakeholders from civil society, business membership organizations, value chain actors and enterprises, peace actors, youth employment actors, media, partners and gender focal agents in the Niger Delta.
The year 2020 is a pivotal year for advancing gender equality worldwide as the global community takes stock of progress made for women’s rights since the adoption of the Beijing platform for action 25 years ago. Working in line with the global theme, the Roundtable will focus on assessment of progress made by PIND and its partners in gender mainstreaming in the last 10 years in the Niger Delta.
PIND will use this medium to showcase and document successes of women empowered economically and women who became peacebuilding change agents or champions as a result of PIND’s efforts throughout the years. Implementing partners, CSOs, NGOs and other gender focal agents will also share their challenges and lessons learnt in the process and proffer possible ways of addressing these challenges to deepen support in advancing the common good of women being supported under PIND program areas.
The Roundtable is expected to produce a list of trackable solutions to challenges hindering effective gender mainstreaming in the region that will inform the actions of PIND and its partners over the next years.
