In October 2015, our capacity building program collaborated with DFID-funded Market Development (MADE) and PROPCOM MAKARFI projects to hold a three-day training at PIND’s Port Harcourt EDC on Adopting Market Development Approach for Development Programming.
The training built the capacity of 25 participants (10 female and 15 male) from 13 Niger Delta organizations to become facilitators of market development interventions and implementers of market driven projects for development partners in the region.
Ahead of the training, the partners had organized a Training of Trainers (TOT) for Market Development Professionals in July through which we raised a cadre of M4P trainers within the Niger Delta region and the country. The TOT which was facilitated by Marshall Bear of Springfield Institute and William Grants of DAI produced 13 market development approach trainers from 5 organizations.
PIND’s Market Development Projects Manager, James Elekwachi and Team Lead of PROPCOM, Collins Apuoyo, who are products of the TOT facilitated the October training comprising four modules: market development cycle, setting visions and strategy, the change process and knowledge management.
A post training evaluation showed participants gained skills and knowledge from the training and were set to not only apply these to their projects and activities, but to also share the knowledge across the region.
