The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), this year, launched a new strategic plan to define our journey for the next five years – from 2020 – 2024.
Preparatory to its development, in 2019, we held 180 interviews and focus group discussions with 14 stakeholder groups at regional, national and international levels. Our new strategic plan is shaped by the needs and perspectives on the Niger Delta as distilled from the huge amount of information that we collected from the stakeholders through the participatory strategic review (PSR) process.
With the new plan, our mission and goal remain the same: we will continue to forge partnerships with a wide array of actors in diverse sectors and, together with them, strive to sustainably break the cycle of poverty and conflict in the Niger Delta and make the communities strong and stable. And we are going to continue doing this in the nine target States of the Niger Delta: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers.
However, this time, we are doing so through two and not four program areas: Economic Development that facilitates inclusive, sustainable and diversified economic growth and Peacebuilding that strengthens conflict management systems and capacities– with points of integration clearly defined to create synergies between both programs and enhance cohesion in reducing poverty and conflict.
The new plan also includes an additional set of initiatives to support, enable, measure and communicate the results and achievements of these two programs – we call these the General Enabling Programs and they consist of advocacy, capacity building, communications and gender and social inclusion.
