Biography

Afeno Odomovo is a Researcher, Data Analyst and Conflict Early Warning expert with over 9 years of experience in conducting data-driven conflict analysis, crisis mapping, social research and analytical reporting. He has successfully coordinated with different data hubs including the Armed Conflict Location Events Data (ACLED) project to integrate, triangulate and cross-validate data from several sources for conflict analysis and reporting to update stakeholders.

Afeno is currently the Research Coordinator at PIND’s Integrated Peace and Development Unit (IPDU), where he coordinates an online multi-stakeholder platform for conflict mapping and geospatial analysis in Nigeria, and superintends an early warning system comprising an SMS-based incident reporting platform and over 500 community-based field monitors that collects conflict data in real-time, and 9 State-based 10-member committees of peace actors that mobilizes resources for preventive interventions in the Niger Delta of Nigeria.

As the Research Coordinator, Afeno oversees and provides strategic oversight to data collection and analysis to predict conflict trends and dynamics, and the production of data-driven conflict reports and briefs to provide insights to stakeholders.

Afeno has worked with a number of organizations in the research, humanitarian and development sectors. He joined PIND from the ‘Nigeria Watch Project’ where he served as an Assistant Coordinator/Researcher. He also served as the Deputy Editor of ‘Fatality Trends’ – a conflict bulletin of the ‘Nigeria Watch Project’. Prior to ‘Nigeria Watch Project’, he worked at the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA-Nigeria) as a Junior Research Fellow. Afeno holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
