The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), in partnership with the School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-Atlantic University, invites applications for the inaugural cohort of the PIND Media Fellows Program for Narrative Change in the Niger Delta.
The six-month Fellowship is designed to strengthen development journalism and promote balanced, evidence-based, and solutions-focused narratives on the Niger Delta. It combines professional learning, PIND institutional knowledge, field immersion, mentorship, practical story production, and newsroom knowledge sharing.
What the Fellowship Includes
- A five-day residential Impact Journalism Academy delivered by SMC with PIND institutional learning sessions.
- Learning on development, solutions, impact, and digital storytelling, alongside development approaches including Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P), Peacebuilding & Social Infrastructure, and Impact Hierarchies.
- PIND orientation, Economic Development Centre, and field immersion, including engagement with program teams, beneficiaries, technical experts, and development evidence.
- Structured mentorship and editorial support during the story-production phase.
- Participation in the PIND Media Fellows Network and post-training learning engagements.
Who Should Apply
- Practicing journalists, editors, producers, broadcast journalists, and digital media storytellers who:
- Have at least three years’ professional media experience.
- Are affiliated with a recognized media organization or platform.
- Demonstrate strong interest in development/public-interest reporting and Niger Delta issues.
- Can demonstrate quality work, audience reach, or editorial influence.
- Are committed to ethical, balanced, and responsible reporting.
- Can participate fully in the six-month Fellowship cycle.
What Fellows Will Be Expected to Deliver
- Complete the orientation, Academy, field/EDC immersion, mentorship, and required assessments.
- Publish at least three development-focused stories during the Fellowship.
- Develop one PIND case study/learning output as required by the Program.
- Conduct at least one newsroom knowledge-sharing session.
- Submit required reflection, publication, and program reporting information.
