PIND, as an organization that consistently champions gender advocacy and the elimination of violence against women and girls, joins the World from November 25 to December 10 to mark this year’s 16Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) with theme: Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect. Designed to address increased violence on women and girls occasioned by COVID-19, our campaign will centre on fund and collect that crisscrosses respond and prevent. This is because without adequate funding and appropriate data collection, responding and preventing GBV becomes difficult.

[dt_teaser background=”fancy” animation=”fadeInRight”]It’s simple. The advent of COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected individuals, families and nations around the world differently. However, data from the United Nations shows that measures such as lockdown and restriction of movement led to escalated physical, sexual and domestic violence against women. In Nigeria, ActionAid and International Growth Centre (ICG) report same. This is a case for concern and one that PIND, as a gender-advocating organization, cannot turn a blind eye to. Because we understand that the achievement of gender equality and empowerment of poor women and girls, persons with disabilities and most vulnerable population is a key pathway towards lasting poverty reduction and shared security and prosperity in the Niger Delta – and GBV is a threat to this.[/dt_teaser]

[dt_teaser background=”fancy” animation=”fadeInRight”]Previously, in marking this important annual campaign in 2017, 2018 and 2019, we gave grants to local NGOs to carry out various in-person activities in their communities. Alas, COVID-19 has changed the world of work, at least for the time being. Considering this present-day global truth, with respect to social distancing and restriction on crowd gathering, the Foundation will mark this year’s 16 days activism through virtual engagements as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.[/dt_teaser]

On Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc,) and across all our platforms (PIND, NDLink, P4P), we will spread the campaign via Podcast, messaging, pictures, and short video. We will also support local first responder civil society organizations in the region to hold interactive radio programs in the nine States to engage the Niger Delta public on Fund, Prevent, Response, and Collect for GBV prevention.[/dt_teaser]

For this reason, we have put our local NGO partner organizations across the nine States of the Niger Delta at the heart of our 2020 16 days of activism as they will be trained and mentored on how to mobilize or raise funds to prevent and respond to GBV issues, in addition to how to access the violence against women and girls (VAWG) database under the early warning and early response (EWER) platform of PIND for quality information on VAWG for use in designing and implementing GBV interventions in their respective States.[/dt_teaser]
