Advancing the Green Transition: PIND Showcases Decentralized Energy Solutions at WACEE 2026

The transition to sustainable energy in West Africa is no longer only an environmental necessity; it is a key driver of economic resilience, enterprise growth, and community development. The Niger Delta has considerable renewable energy capacity and opportunities to scale innovative, community-centred energy solutions. Unlocking this capacity requires coordinated action, strategic investment, and scalable models that work for local contexts.

To advance this mission, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) participated in the West African Clean Energy and Environment Conference (WACEE 2026), held in Lagos from 17 to 18 March 2026. The conference, themed “Accelerating West Africa’s Green Transition: Innovation, Policy, and Investment”, brought together policymakers, financiers, development partners, renewable energy developers, and private sector actors from across Nigeria and the international community.

PIND’s participation aimed to showcase;

  1. Our Access To Energy Models and proven systems for investment
  2. Meet potential partners and drive foreign investment to the region
  3. Highlight the results of community-driven renewable solutions, and
  4. Connect the Niger Delta energy needs with regional and global sustainable development initiatives.

Showcasing the Access to Energy (A2E) Energy Interventions

At the heart of PIND’s participation was a strategic exhibition booth that served as a hub for innovation, knowledge sharing, and high-level networking. The booth provided a visual and technical deep dive into PIND’s market-facilitation model, demonstrating how decentralized renewable energy (DRE) solutions are currently powering small businesses, health centres, and households across the Niger Delta. PIND also showcased success stories from its community interventions, met with partners, and demonstrated a new database technology to potential partners.

By featuring the work of its implementing partners, PIND demonstrated that sustainable energy is not just a concept but a functional reality. The exhibition allowed participants to see firsthand how community-based interventions are overcoming traditional barriers to energy access, proving the viability of scalable green investment across the Niger Delta.

Technical Leadership and Strategic Networking

Beyond the exhibition booth, PIND’s Access to Energy (A2E) team actively participated in technical workshops and side events. These sessions were critical for engaging a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders to discuss aligning regional energy strategies with national climate goals, identifying new funding mechanisms and de-risking strategies for off-grid projects, and exploring synergies in climate-aligned development and inclusive economic growth.

The booth was effectively utilised as a shared space for A2E partners to hold meetings with financiers and potential funders, reinforcing PIND’s role as a convener within the ecosystem

These interactions reinforced PIND’s standing as a thought leader and a trusted delivery partner, capable of navigating the unique complexities of the Niger Delta energy landscape.

Strengthening the Energy Ecosystem

PIND’s engagement at WACEE 2026 resulted in several high-value achievements that will shape the roadmap for the coming strategic year:

  • Enhanced Recognition: Increased visibility of PIND’s A2E energy interventions and partner-led solutions among regional and international actors.
  • Deepened Ties: Stronger connections with key public and private sector stakeholders to influence energy policy and support.
  • Resource Mobilisation: Identification of partnership prospects for upcoming energy projects.
  • Ecosystem Expansion: A broadened network of practitioners and developers dedicated to decentralised energy deployment in host communities.

Driving Sustainable Energy for the Future

Participation in WACEE 2026 underscores PIND’s commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future. By aligning its work with A2E Phase IV strategic objectives of promoting energy access and economic inclusion, PIND continues to lead the way in ensuring that the Niger Delta is a central player in West Africa’s green transition.

As we move forward, the insights and partnerships forged at WACEE will be instrumental in scaling the A2E programme, ensuring that even the most remote communities have the power to grow, thrive, and contribute to a greener West Africa.
