Call for Applications: Internship to support PIND’s Integrated Peace and Development Unit (IPDU)

PIND seeks to engage an Intern to support the IPDU. The Intern will assist in improving the quality of IPDU deliverables.

The intern would assist the Research Coordinator to provide technical support to organizations on how to use the Peace Map and Early Warning/Early Response infrastructure, and to continuously re-engineer the existing research process to reflect best practices. The intern will also provide support in collating and coding over 600 conflict data monthly and weekly telephone engagement with more than 250 active Peace Monitors for coding and formatting of over 400 incident reports every month.

SCOPE OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES

The intern will assist the IPDU Research Coordinator as follows:

1. Coding and formatting of over 600 incident reports on the Peace Map every month

2. Collation of data for weekly/quarterly trackers, policy briefings and special conflict reports

3. Weekly telephone engagement with over 250 active RDC and P4P Peace Monitors across the 9 states of the Niger Delta on conflict incident reporting

4. Monitoring of the IPDU SMS Early Warning platform in real-time to identify and send conflict early warning alerts to RDC Peacebuilding and P4P Prevent Committee members and other stakeholders

5. Daily analysis of online and print media to collate data on conflict and instability in the Niger Delta

6. Regular update of the distribution/mailing list for the SMS platform to ensure seamless forwarding of alerts to stakeholders.

7. Administrative and secretariat support to the IPDU. 8. Perform other related responsibilities as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of BSc/BA/HND in relevant field of studies, with not more than two years post-graduation or two years post national youth service (NYSC).
A self-starter with good time management and organisational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be computer literate with strong analytical and numerical skills.

Additional Qualifications

Basic understanding of databases.
Excellent knowledge of data analysis and word processing tools (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Experience

Entry level.
