Out of 540 entries from across Africa, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) is honored to announce our 2nd position award for the Empowerment of Women in the Community – West Africa, from the Gender Mainstreaming Awards 2021!
Congratulations to us and thanks to all our partners for supporting us to achieve this!
The awards ceremony took place virtually on 09 September 2021 celebrating businesses and individuals committed to taking meaningful steps towards equality. An initiative of Business Engage Association NPC, the African-wide 9th gender mainstreaming award was sponsored by Accenture (a collaborative of corporates working together for gender diversity).
Since our inception, we have sought to ensure gender is mainstreamed into our programs and projects. This is to ensure women are given the opportunity to participate and contribute to our development interventions in the communities as it is so incredibly important to closing the glaring gender equity gap, and we are proud of how far we have come in doing so.
Recognizing companies and organizations like PIND that have actively worked towards gender diversity at all levels, Ntombi Mhangwani, Experience Architect & Lead Women’s Forum at Accenture Interactive Africa says: “The impact of COVID-19 will continue to allow societies to be less equal, more divided and poorer if they are left unattended. It is therefore important to recognize – through initiatives such as Gender Mainstreaming Awards – women as equal partners and key actors in the economy”.
This award further fuels our commitment to promoting gender equity in diverse ways such as: set 40% target for gender and social inclusion across all programs; organize outreach to improve productivity of women smallholder farmers and entrepreneurs; facilitate young women into jobs and enterprises; address gender labor market segregation; activate women as frontline peacebuilders; capacity development for women-led enterprises and women from CSOs & Business membership organizations (BMOs); enable gender-lensed financial services to unlock credit for women-owned businesses, with focus on coastal community women; organize advocacy forums for gender equity; provide data for activism against gender-based violence ; and promote fit-for-purpose efficient technologies for women to mention a few.
