PIND Foundation recently concluded a two-day virtual engagement on September 19 and 25, 2024, aimed at enhancing the oil palm sector in the Niger Delta. This event, organized in collaboration with four leading seed companies, focused on overcoming key challenges related to seed quality and distribution for nursery operators and farmers across the region.
Session Highlights:
- Day One: Featured expert insights from Thomas Dakogre, General Manager of Ghana Sumatra Limited, and Nezah Obi-Udi, consultant for PalmElit Nigeria. They discussed the challenges nursery operators face and explored solutions for improving seed distribution and quality. The session also highlighted the latest advancements in oil palm seeds, emphasizing their role in boosting productivity.
- Day Two: Segun Solomon, Director of Research and Head of Extension at NIFOR, and Arthur Anya-Fredereeks, CEO of Allissee Seeds & Co., led discussions on market expansion strategies and best practices for building efficient distribution networks. They also shared valuable information on how to meet EU traceability standards for oil exports, a critical aspect of international trade compliance.
This virtual engagement is a key step in addressing the challenges within the Niger Delta’s oil palm sector. By fostering discussions between seed producers and nursery operators, PIND aims to support the sustainable growth and accessibility of improved oil palm seeds for farmers in the region.
