The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) celebrates the remarkable leadership and legacy of its Executive Director, Mr. Tunji Idowu, who retires after nearly a decade of dedicated service. Since joining PIND as Deputy Executive Director in 2016 and later becoming Executive Director, Mr. Idowu has been instrumental in shaping the organization’s vision for inclusive growth, sustainable peace, and economic diversification across the Niger Delta.
A Champion of Youth Empowerment, Energy Access, and Economic Diversification
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Idowu passionately championed programs that empowered youth and women, diversified local economies beyond oil, and improved livelihoods across the region. His leadership was pivotal in expanding PIND’s Youth Employment Pathways (YEP) initiative, equipping over 11,000 young people with market-relevant skills that led to jobs, entrepreneurship, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
Recognizing the critical role of energy in development, Mr. Idowu also prioritized expanding clean energy access through PIND’s Access to Energy (A2E) program. His efforts helped deliver renewable energy solutions to underserved communities, powering homes, businesses, and health centers and strengthening climate-smart agriculture and rural enterprise.
Advancing Peacebuilding and Policy Advocacy
Mr. Idowu’s tenure saw a deepened focus on peacebuilding and conflict prevention. Under his guidance, PIND’s peacebuilding initiatives successfully mitigated more than 1,200 violent incidents, reinforcing the connection between peace, economic stability, and sustainable development.
He also advanced PIND’s policy advocacy work, engaging government, private sector, and civil society actors to champion reforms that support inclusive economic growth. His commitment to evidence-based advocacy and grassroots empowerment helped elevate local voices and solutions in policy discussions at regional and national levels.

A firm believer in innovation and local ownership, Mr. Idowu ensured that PIND’s programs were community-driven, data-informed, and results-oriented. His leadership strengthened PIND’s reputation as a catalyst for systemic change, and his focus on building resilient institutions and markets has left an enduring impact on the Niger Delta’s development landscape.
