Conflict in the Niger Delta is an issue that has constantly plagued all actors in the region. As part of PIND’s efforts to tackle this issue, Partners for Peace (P4P) established PREVENT teams to increase the engagement of grassroots peace-building actors in addressing local conflicts in the Niger Delta region.
Knowledge is indeed power! After undergoing top-notch training in conflict analysis, advocacy, negotiation and mediation conducted by P4P, we have empowered local, self-identified peace actors with the skills they need to meaningfully contribute to peace building in their communities. Tasked with the responsibility of identifying local conflicts that could escalate into violence and working towards preventing or mitigating them, these peace actors have spread awareness on the importance of peace and have formed necessary linkages with public and private sector stakeholders, including security officials in each state.
“Through the P4P network, the conflict between the Fulanis and young farmers at Ore was successfully brought to an end”.
“After the destruction of Agro business at Ore, Odigbo LGA Ondo State by Fulani herdsmen, P4P in collaboration with Wealth Creation Agency (WECA) successfully restored peace to the area via a peaceful mediation with the Fulani herdsmen”.
