Donor Coordination
As we tackle poverty and insecurity in the Niger Delta, not only are local partnerships key but also the facilitation of regional cooperation through donor coordination. The multiplicity of donors and partners in the Niger Delta, many with projects, programmes, interests, structures, and procedures of their own increases the proliferation of initiatives and overall transaction cost of development interventions in the region. When donors and development partners are willing to subordinate their interest and visibility towards joint and collaborative approaches to development, better results emerge. These outcomes assist in aligning contributions, streamlining strategies, and helping establish donors’ key responsibilities in project implementation. Ensuring more efficient and effective interventions necessities activities that drive four key objectives:
- Harmonization — to simplify and establish common arrangements to implement aid;
- Cooperation — to identify and collaborate on mutual priorities, agendas, and policies on key thematic areas;
- Information Sharing — to formalize platforms for regular discussions on Niger Delta matters and disseminate operational knowledge of partner activities;
- Knowledge Sharing — to mainstream key strategies that support socioeconomic development.
By putting monitoring tools in place to track progress against these measures, PIND is working to enhance regional development and strengthen the efforts of donors working in the Niger Delta.
