On 7 April 2021, the Abia State 30-Year Long Term Development Plan (2020-2050) developed by PIND Foundation with support from the Abia State Government was launched by the Deputy Governor of Abia State at the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, Abia State with representatives of PIND Foundation and State Government officials present.
PIND’s support to the Abia State Government in the development of the 30-Year Long Term Development Plan is a precursor to the State team’s victory as the Eastern zone winner of the region-wide development planning competition organized by PIND Foundation – PIND, The European Niger Delta Support Program – NDSP & Market Development in the Niger Delta – MADE at the Niger Delta Development Forum (NDDF) 2018.
Since then, PIND Foundation has worked with the State to ensure that the development of the 30-year plan involves every arm of the Abia State government and reflects the thoughts and interests of the Abia people as regards the future of their State.
The plan which is a product of series of multi-stakeholder engagements is made up of 7 sections, 15 chapters, 11 Pillars and four cross-cutting themes built on the pillars of: Agriculture, Industry, Trade and Investment, Oil and Gas, Health, Education, Social Protection, Governance and Public Service Reforms, Infrastructure, Environment and Regional Planning and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) as it advocates for:
- Adopting a Demand-Led Model in Youth Employment programs in Abia State
- Facilitating Access to Agricultural Land for Farmers in Abia
- Establishing Peacebuilding Infrastructure in Abia State
- Addressing Multiple Taxation and Illegal
As a pilot, PIND developed a 30-Year Growth and Development Strategy (GDS), a long-term development plan for the Cross Rivers State Government in 2019, which was launched as part of the activities of the Cross River International Collaboration & Investors Summit 2019.
