Inclusive development is only possible when women, young people, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups have equitable access to opportunities, resources, and decision-making processes. Recognizing this, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) and Plan International Nigeria have entered into a strategic partnership to strengthen Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), safeguarding systems, youth empowerment, and community resilience across the Niger Delta.
Formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partnership brings together the complementary expertise of both organizations to promote more inclusive development systems and expand opportunities for vulnerable populations across the region.
Advancing Inclusive Development Through Partnership
The collaboration will strengthen the integration of gender equality and social inclusion across PIND’s programmes while enhancing safeguarding and accountability systems that protect vulnerable groups and promote equitable participation.
The partnership will also support initiatives that expand economic opportunities for women and youth, strengthen gender-responsive peacebuilding and governance, and build the institutional capacity of development actors through technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and collaborative learning.
By aligning expertise and resources, both organizations aim to create stronger systems that promote inclusion not as a standalone activity, but as a core principle underpinning sustainable development.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, PIND Executive Director, Mr. Sam Ogbemi Daibo, emphasized that lasting development depends on ensuring that no one is left behind.
“Sustainable development cannot happen when women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups remain excluded from opportunities and decision-making processes. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to building more inclusive, resilient, and equitable communities across the Niger Delta,” he said.
The Country Director of Plan International Nigeria, Dr. Charles Usie, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to embedding inclusion, protection, and equal opportunity into development systems and community structures, describing the partnership as an important opportunity to strengthen gender-responsive programming and expand opportunities for women and young people.
Strengthening Systems for Long-Term Impact
Beyond implementing joint activities, the partnership seeks to influence how development programmes are designed and delivered across the Niger Delta by promoting stronger safeguarding systems, inclusive governance, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
The collaboration also provides a platform for joint policy engagement, institutional learning, and knowledge exchange that will strengthen the capacity of partner organizations to deliver more responsive and inclusive development interventions.
Building a More Inclusive Future
The partnership reflects PIND’s broader commitment under Phase IV to ensuring that gender equality and social inclusion are integrated across all programme areas—from peacebuilding and economic development to youth employment and access to energy.
By working together, PIND and Plan International Nigeria are helping to create pathways for more equitable participation, stronger community resilience, and sustainable development outcomes that improve the lives of people across the Niger Delta.
