To advance pathways for decent work and enterprise creation among young people in the Niger Delta, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) organized a Labor Market Assessment (LMA) Validation Workshop in Bayelsa State.

Held under the Youth Employment Pathways (YEP) project, the session brought together stakeholders from government agencies, the private sector, training institutions, civil society, and youth groups. The workshop was designed to review and validate findings from the LMA conducted in Bayelsa and to address the high levels of youth unemployment and underemployment in the region.Strengthening Evidence for Youth Employment Pathways

The assessment was built upon earlier consultations, focusing on mapping sectors with employment potential, the skills required in the labor market, and TVET institutions positioned to support YEP implementation in Bayelsa State.

The YEP Coordinator, Ndifreke Patrick, highlighted the importance of grounding interventions in verified data and stakeholder perspectives. He noted that validating these findings with stakeholders ensures the YEP model remains both evidence-based and reflective of local realities in Bayelsa State, thereby enhancing the sustainability of interventions.Key Outcomes of the Validation Workshop

The Bayelsa validation session generated actionable insights, including:

● Identification of priority sectors with strong potential for youth employment and entrepreneurship.

● Mapping of training and support institutions in the state and assessment of their capacity to deliver quality, market-relevant programs.

● Recognition of gender-specific challenges and opportunities to strengthen inclusion in YEP interventions.

● Recommendations from stakeholders to adapt PIND’s current sector focus—agriculture, ICT, and construction—while exploring emerging opportunities unique to Bayelsa’s economy.

● Strengthened partnerships with state institutions and private sector actors for collaborative program implementation.Building Partnerships for Scalable Youth Employment Impact

By validating the findings with stakeholders, the session helped to align perspectives on employment pathways, capacity needs, and intervention design for Bayelsa. This collaborative process ensures that the YEP expansion is both context-driven and positioned to deliver sustainable outcomes for young men and women.

Next Steps

Following the validation, PIND will consolidate the findings into a final Labour Market Assessment report. The report will directly inform the design and rollout of YEP interventions in Bayelsa state, building on lessons from previous program phases in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, and Ondo States.

Through these efforts, PIND reaffirms its commitment to equipping Niger Delta youth with market-relevant skills, enabling their transition into decent jobs and enterprises, and advancing inclusive economic growth across the region.
