As a key implementer of the U.S. Government-led Power Africa Health Electrification and Telecommunications Alliance (HETA), which aims to facilitate access to renewable energy for healthcare centers in the Niger Delta, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) attended the launch of the European Union-funded Nigeria Solar for Health Project (NISHP), implemented by NTU International.
PIND leveraged the platform to highlight its expertise and accomplishments in healthcare electrification. This initiative has been recognized as an innovative approach to improving medical services, particularly in unserved and underserved areas. By providing reliable and sustainable energy, healthcare facilities can operate more efficiently, ensuring better patient care and outcomes.Under this project, the NISHP is set to electrify a minimum of nine sites and support the connection of at least forty-five productive load users per state, providing technical assistance for deploying solar systems. Discussions centered on garnering subnational support and mobilizing resources to commence the project, which will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. This strategic approach is designed to maximize the reach and effectiveness of the initiative.
PIND actively engaged in networking opportunities with key state actors, potential donor agency partners such as the EU Energy Desk, and leading technology service providers. These interactions aimed to foster collaborations and ensure the successful implementation of the NISHP, ultimately contributing to the transformation of healthcare services across Nigeria through sustainable energy solutions.The event was well-attended by a diverse array of stakeholders, including the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, the Federal Ministry of Power, the Nigeria Governors Forum, the Rural Electrification Agency, the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, and representatives from various state governments such as Ondo, Abia, Edo, Kano, Gombe, Benue, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom. Also present were officials from NTU International, the EU Mission in Nigeria and ECOWAS, PIND Foundation, and Abt Associates. Government officials and representatives from these states underscored the importance of the NISHP and expressed their commitment to supporting its implementation.
