Sharing PIND’s Working Model for Youth Employment; The Niger Delta Youth Employment Pathways (NDYEP) Model

During the first quarter of the year 2020, PIND participated at a Job Creation Summit in Lagos, hosted by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund. with the theme: “Showcasing Leading Practices for Job Creation” scheduled for February 5th and 6th 2020. The forum was attended by over 200 participants, who were representatives of donor agencies, private sector companies and government agencies. On the panel was PIND’s Deputy Executive Director who gave detailed information about PIND and our work on youth employment. PIND 2020 Quarter 1 Monitoring and Evaluation Report 52 Other panelists were top representatives from German Development Agency (GIZ), United States Agency Development Fund (USADF), British High Commission’s Prosperity Fund and International Labour Organization (ILO).

In his presentation,   Emeka Ile, Youth Employment Pathways Project for the Niger Delta (NDYEP) Manager, shared knowledge on PIND’s bids to create jobs in the Niger Delta, and how the NDYEP developed models of job-readiness or workforce development to provide 3000 marginalized youth with the opportunity to secure sustainable jobs through quality training that prepares them with market relevant skills. So far, it has been implemented in three out of the nine Niger Delta States namely: (Akwa Ibom, Abia and Rivers States) focused on the following sectors: ICT, Agriculture and Construction and Renewable Energy.

PIND's key target audience for 2020 namely investors/donors, governments, media and international NGOs such as Harambee, ILO, etc. , as well as private sector companies.
