As part of activities to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, PIND held a media advocacy outreach meeting in Ngor Okpala Community of Imo State on March 6 to showcase the contributions of women farmers to the rural economy and draw attention to the constraints limiting them from maximizing the immense opportunities in their respective agricultural value chains.
Themed ‘’Time is Now: Transforming Lives of Rural Women in Small Businesses and Agriculture’, the town hall style outreach was attended by 310 representatives from several rural women farmer associations in Imo State, government, civil society groups, traditional and religious rulers, and regional and national media organizations some of which are the Africa Independent Television (AIT), Channels Television, Orient TV/FM, Business Day Newspaper, TVC, International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
The outreach provided a platform for the rural women farmers to interact with the diverse stakeholders present to tell their stories and speak about their needs and concerns. The event is in line with PIND’s commitment to promote gender equality and equity in the Niger Delta region through its partnerships, programs, projects and operations.
